On mahtavaa päästä nauttimaan taas parin vuoden tauon jälkeen tätä jumalten nektaria! Viimeksi nautin tätä Mallaskukossa vuonna 2008 harrastuksen alkutaipaleella ja oikein hyvin maistui tuolloin. Oikeastaan tuosta asti olen odotellut uudelleen maistelua.
Bigfoot on Sierra Nevadan lippulaivatuote, 9,6 % barley wine. Oluen humalointi on varsinainen taidonnäyte ja se on toteutettu seuraavilla lajikkeilla; Cascade, Centennial, sekä Chinook. Olut onkin kuin sekoitus IPAa ja barley wineä.
Ulkonäkö on todellista kauneutta. Mahtava punertavan ruskea väri isolla ja kuohkealla vaahtopäällä. Tuoksun huumatessa ajatukseni, vaellan jo etiketissä olevaan metsään, missä isojalka luurailee. Hänen on oltava todella mahtava tyyppi, kun tällaista olutta hänen nimissä valmistetaan.
Havuista humalaa, katkeraa greippisyyttä, erittäin miellyttävää toffeista mallasta, sekä hyvällä tavalla potkua tuovaa pipppurista alkoholia. Ei mitään hirveän monipuolista, mutta vain niin pirun tasapainoista.
Suutuntuma on uskomattoman pehmeä, täyteläinen, sekä hieman polttava. Maku ei edelleenkään petä ja tuntuu että lasi tyhjenee ehkä vähän liiankin nopeasti.
Herkullisen toffeinen mallas vie pääosaroolin, kuten barley winessä kuuluukin, mutta humalat lisäävät olueen mielenkiintoa ja lähes minttuista raikkautta joka kulauksella. Lisäksi ne tasoittavat maltaan makeutta, mikä muuten jylläisi valtoimenaan.
Enempää en rupea olutta analysoimaan, vaan haluan vain nauttia lasin lopusta. Aivan mahtava olut! Alko Arkadia, 4,16€/350ml.
It's great to have this godly beer again! Last time I had this was at '08 in a local bar (Mallaskukko) when my tasty hobby was at its first steps.
Bigfoot is Sierra Nevada's "real" flagship beer in my opinion, although they say it's their Pale Ale, which is obviously sold most. Bigfoots hopping is a real work of art and it's done with 3 different hop varieties; Cascade, Centennial and Chinook. Beer really tastes too like a great mix of an IPA and barley wine.
Beer's appearance is really a true beauty itself. Deep reddish brown color with a great foam head. The scent of the beer just takes my thoughts out to the labels forrest, where bigfoot is hiding in the shadows. He/she must be a really great person, since they do beers like this with its name honoured on the label ;).
Pinewoody hops, bitter grapefruit, oh so delicious toffeeish malt and a little bit of peppery alcohol that suits quite well here though.
It's not the most diversity beer we got here, but very well balanced. Mouth feeling is amazingly soft, fullbodied and a little warming also.
The taste won't let you down at this time either and I feel almost like my glass is emptying itself...
Delicious toffeeish malt is taking the lead role here, just as it should be in a great barley wine, but hops takes this beer to a next level and gives it almost a mint like refreshing effect. Hops tame the malts sweetness too.
But I won't analyse this beer anymore because I just want to enjoy last of the beer without writing with a computer at the same time. Bigfoot is an absolutely great beer and if you haven't tasted this already shame on you!
